Life’s Q & A
  • The word ‘gospel’ means good news.

In the church the gospel of Jesus Christ is the good news about who Jesus Christ is, what He has done and how that changes everything in the world and in our lives.

It is the best and most important news you will ever hear. It is life-changing and uplifting news.

It is news that comes from God and not man. It is news about His Son, Jesus Christ.

    Who is Jesus?
The Christ! Our Saviour, Lord and King

    What has He done?
He suffered, died, was buried, was raised from the dead on the third day. This is the work of salvation, what Jesus Christ did to save humanity

How can we know this is true?
It was prophesied and recorded in scripture and in history.

    Why has Jesus done this?
He has done this to forgive our sins and give to us the benefits that come with salvation

    How do we respond?
You receive the good news, believe it and confess Him as Lord and Saviour.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 [NKJV]

  • We were created by God for God – to have fellowship with Him, to be like Him.

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.  Genesis 1:26-27 [NKJV]

Until we find God and have a relationship with Him, we feel empty – always looking for the next pleasure, next thrill, next new thing. Man’s quest without God is unending and remains unfulfilled.

When you find God, you find purpose and fulfilment. Your purpose in life is tied in with a relationship with God.

Ignorance has created a fear of God.

But God is Love and God loves you  …

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 [NKJV]

But God still loved us with such great love. He is so rich in compassion and mercy. Even when we were dead and doomed in our many sins, he united us into the very life of Christ and saved us by his wonderful grace!  Ephesians 2:4-5 [TPT]

… even when you turn away from Him He still loves you …

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 [NKJV]

… and He wants the best for you

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 [NKJV]

  • Yes, God is REAL!

Consider the world in which we live. Science is still trying to explain many things it. Yet it has functioned on its own without help from anyone. How did it come to be? What makes it work?

    Bible tells us in that

“In reality, the truth of God is known instinctively, for God has embedded this knowledge inside every human heart.” Romans 1:19 [TPT].

He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11 [NKJV]

Every creation on earth knows the power and greatness of God and tells a story

“God’s splendour is a tale that is told, written in the stars. Space itself speaks his story through the marvels of the heavens. His truth is on tour in the starry vault of the sky, showing his skill in creation’s craftsmanship. Each day gushes out its message to the next, night by night whispering its knowledge to all— without a sound, without a word, without a voice being heard, yet all the world can hear its echo. Everywhere its message goes out. What a heavenly home God has set for the sun, shining in the superdome of the sky!” Psalms 19:1-4 [TPT]

  • God does not give us fear. When you put your trust in God, He takes care of you and any fear, in particular the fear of death.

    Why?
Because God promises that those who believe in Him, and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, will one day be with Him in heaven. Heaven, a place of no pain, sorrow or death.

And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. Revelation 21:4

God’s perfect love can overshadow and take away any fear, through the faith and confidence we have in Him and His word.

Think about it, when you genuinely love someone, you have no reason to be afraid when they are with you.

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
    1 John 4:18

And God’s word for you is this …

    PEACE
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;  and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
    Philippians 4:6-7

    A SOUND MIND
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

Give you life to Jesus Christ. Commit your ways to Him.
    He will save you.
    He will heal you.
    He will deliver you.
    He will set you free.

    He said …
I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.  The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep”.
    John 10:9-11

  • God has so much to say about you in the bible.  When a manufacturer sells a product, a manual is included to help the user get the best out of the product.

You are God’s creation; uniquely made.
Do you know that no one shares your finger print or the distinct pattern in your iris. Scientist say even your two irises don’t match each other. Yes, you are unique and God sees you just as you are.

    For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
     I will praise You, for [g]I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
    Psalm 139:13-15

He had a purpose when He created you and me – everyone.

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
    Ephesians 2:10

Before you appeared on the scene, He knew you and prepared for you.

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Jeremiah 1:5a

God sees the ‘you’ He created, and all that He created is GOOD.  Read Genesis 1

And this is what God says about His thoughts concerning you …

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
    Jeremiah 29:11

God’s thoughts and plans for you are good and to bring you to a future full of hope and peace.

  • We often paint God with the same brush with which we paint other human beings, our earthly fathers and other father figures we come across in life.

Human beings are not perfect (God knows this). Human beings like you and me are prone to anger; to making mistakes and getting things wrong.

… for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, …
    Romans 3:23

God is Love. All He desires is that you will come to Him, and get to know Him, so much so that

[He] demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
    Romans 5:8

If God is angry with you, why would He send His only Son to die for our salvation – so we can be reconciled with Him?

No, God is not angry with you. He has made provision for you to:

    Come to Him
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

    Call on Him
Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me. Psalm 50:15

He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honour him. Psalm 91:15

    Know Him
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.  Hosea 4:6a

Eternal life means to know and experience you as the only true God,
and to know and experience Jesus Christ, as the Son whom you have sent. John 17:3 [TPT]

And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
    John 8:32

You can only know who God really is if you know Him for yourself. Invest the time and you will see that God is LOVE.

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
    Matthew 7:7-9

The beauty of God is this, He says

Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’ Jeremiah 33:3

How do you know that He will hear you?

Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 1 John 5:14

What is it like to know God

  • Bad things happen, yes; sometimes to good people. But that is never God’s plan.

Unfortunately, man makes choices that are contrary to God’s plans and purposes and the result is often pain, suffering and chaos.

And I hear ask ‘why doesn’t God intervene?’ He has. He has given us a choice to do the right thing and to come to Him …

In a dark, chaotic and turbulent world, you can find peace and rest in God. That’s His goodness.

Are you weary, carrying a heavy burden? Come to me. I will refresh your life, for I am your oasis. Simply join your life with mine. Learn my ways and you’ll discover that I’m gentle, humble, easy to please. You will find refreshment and rest in me. For all that I require of you will be pleasant and easy to bear.
    Matthew 11:28-30 [TPT]

He promises peace to those who will come to Him …

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
    Philippians 4:6-8 [NKJV]

    Like the hymn says …
Oh what peace we often forfeit
Oh what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
    Everything to God in prayer

  • It is good that you want to read the bible.

The bible is the word of God – His manual for us to live by.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 [NKJV]

The same scripture in The Passion Translation reads:

God has transmitted his very substance into every Scripture, for it is God-breathed. It will empower you by its instruction and correction, giving you the strength to take the right direction and lead you deeper into the path of godliness. Then you will be God’s servant, fully mature and perfectly prepared to fulfill any assignment God gives you.’
    2 Timothy 3:16-17

And in the Easy Version reads …

Everything that is written in the Bible comes from God’s Spirit . It helps us in many ways. The Bible teaches us what is true. It warns us when we are doing wrong things. It shows us what is right. It teaches us how to live good lives. As a result, people who want to serve God can know how to live properly. They will be people who are ready to do all kinds of good things.
    2 Timothy 3:16-17

The bible  was written many years ago in Aramaic and Greek and translated into different languages. Language evolves over the years. Words evolve in their meaning.

In old English, the word ‘charity’ meant ‘love’.

Find a version you can understand. If you don’t understand a context in one version, try another to see if it will be clearer.

There are various online platforms where you can access different translations. Here are a few:
